A unique small-group resource, ‘Companions in Christ’ for spiritual formation was launched at the recent facilitators’ training event on 24-25 April 2012 which was held at Trinity Methodist Church, Jalan Ellis, Kuching. A total number of 78 participants with 19 in the English class and 58 in the Chinese class.
This resource is designed to create a setting where participants can listen more deeply and respond more freely to God’s call to spiritual communion in Christ—as an individual, as a member of a small group, and as part of a congregation. Companions focuses on teaching and building spiritual practices to help participants share more fully in the heart, mind and work of Christ.
Companions explores the potential of Christian community as an environment of grace and mutual guidance through the Spirit. Companions is centered on the disciplines of spiritual reading, scriptural reflection, prayer, journaling, worship, and Christian conversation—means of grace that are commonly ways Christ meets people, renews their faith, and deepens their life together in love. Companions in Christ can help develop persons for leadership roles, preparing them to assist in guiding the spiritual life of the congregation. Companions in Christ models a different kind of small group, one that is essentially an expression of spiritual guidance. It is formative in content, practice, and experience.
